Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Mobile, Alabama!

In southwest Alabama, Mobile -- on Gulf Coast shores with the Mississippi River to the west and the Mobile Tensaw River Delta to the east -- is known as both the Azalea City and the City of Six Flags, having developed under the French, Spanish, British, Republic of Alabama, Confederacy and the Stars & Stripes. It's also a bustling seaport city for cargo and passenger traffic, with modern Mobile deriving more than half its annual wealth from industries directly allied with waterborne commerce. Carnival Cruise Line's Fun Ship Holiday homeports in Mobile, where more than 70 departures are logged each year. Hurricane Katrina came through with a vengeance in fall 2005. After a months-long closure from damage, the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park staged a grand reopening ceremony in early 2006 for the attraction hosting more than 12 million visitors since its 1965 opening. The USS Alabama and the submarine USS Drum are open for touring and most of the aircraft is again on view. Other attractions operating as usual are Bellingrath Gardens, Mobile Museum of Art, Daughin Island Estuarium, the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion, the Civil war era Magee Farm and Home, Mobile Botanical Gardens, and the Mobile Police Museum. The Southern Belle tour boat runs its regular weekend schedule including dinner cruises from Bellingrath Gardens. The Mobile Carnival Museum is open, soon with a new gift shop. Mobile restaurants are thriving as well, from Ed's Seafood Shed on the causeway and the Original Oyster House, which purchased another location on the causeway to re-open in a hurry, to Roussos Restaurant, The Colony Grill, and The Little Kitchen downtown. The landmark BlueGill Restaurant vows to reopen by late 2006. Also open for business are Mr. Jim's Cannon Brewpub, Bienville Day Spa, Spot of Tea, Tanger Factory Outlets, and Mrs. Wheat's Treats. Magnificent architecture and grand homes reflect the city's 300-year heritage. Among native Mobilians are singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett of Cheeseburger in Paradise fame, and authors Winston (Forest Gump) Groom, Fannie (Fried Green Tomatoes) Flagg, and Truman (In Cold Blood) Capote. Greater Mobile accommodations range from bed and breakfasts and family owned motels to luxury hotels.
